Soft vs Harsh, Tailoring & ruffles

These images are from Viktor & Rolf's Spring 2010 ready to wear show. I find the images very inspirational and believe they connect well with my theme beautifully dark. I believe they relate as they are combining structured harsh tailoring along with very soft draping and ruffles, showing that the two can be beautifully combined together.

Silhouettes

Love love love these Viktor and Rolf images, I love that they are so surreal and strange, but also so soft elegant and beautiful at the same time.

I also like the shape and unconvential style and asymmetrical look of these Westwood suit jackets. Not conforming to the normal suit jacket style of buttons straight down the front.

Cuffs

Collars

Ready for Friday's lesson I have started to have a look at the topics we have been asked to research collars cuffs and shilouets, to hopefully find some images I love and be inspired to possibly start some design development and possibly designs.
Firstly I have started to have a look at Collars, below I have found a mixture of different collars some quiet traditional, and others all very wired and wonderful. I have looked at different sources such as the royal college of arts, channel and Viktor and Rolf.
The images I loved the most are two by Vicktor and Rolf at the bottom of my page. I love the large huge over sized ruffled collar that end's half way down the body. I also am so inspired by the white collar inside a collar inside a collar like mini replicas of each other, including the bow detail getting smaller and smaller. I find these images very inspirational and think i will definitely be using them or looking to them for ideas when starting my design development.

Friday Fabric Shopping

Today's task was to head out and about round London and start to collect some fabric samples that could possibly be used within this module.

Cloth House - 98 Berwick street
I visited the cloth House at 98 Berwick, to be honest I have never really ventured down Berwick street this far so didn't know there was another cloth house but was pleased to find another at the end of the road.
Fabrics I found here included one named Tyrek ( well that's what I could make out from the handwriting I could be wrong) I like this fabric as it was almost like a soft coated black plastic with a matt finish.
The second was a black silk mix it felt very much like cotton however and a sheen to the fabric.
Finally was a black stretchy type fabric that contains an almost leather look floral pattern on. Im not sure what this is or how it was produced but it would be interesting to find out.

Cloth house - 47 Berwick street
Now to the other cloth house, this is where I collected four more samples. I'm not really sure what the fabrics are as the price has only been taken down on the fabric card and not what the fabric consists of. However it will be interesting to possibly test out burn testing on each of the fabrics and try to determine what they are myself.

I loved all the fabrics with in Libertys due to there interesting and varied range of different prints. The two above I really liked and felt fitted in well with my theme as all though they are flora prints which are often seen in bright pastel colours, They have been produced in dull, dark and muted tones giving a more sinister and dark feel to them.
